ART & aCTIVITIES
JOIN US – AROUND THE BANDSTAND
Free Art Activities from 12 ’til 6pm – and the Pride Parade starts here at 2:30pm
This Year's Theme
SoT Pride is celebrating its 20th birthday this year, and China is the perfect gift to mark the occasion! To honour this fabulous milestone, the parade’s lead costumes are inspired by local ceramics. The lesbian-led design team shared that they’ve particularly focused on Wedgwood’s Portland Vase and Spode’s Willow pattern, combined in the fabulous style of one of their favourite queer icons, fashion designer Leigh Bowery.
Their creations ‘Saucy Bird’ and ‘Potty Mouth’ will be leading this year’s Pride Park Parade, accompanied by Art Brasil, fabulous Brazilian song and dance company.
This year we have also been working with NULC students on costume, dance and music and Urban Wilderness’s Teen Team who will bring their spectacular creations to the parade.
Pre-Parade Arts Workshops
Free Pre-Parade Participatory Arts Workshops – find us around the bandstand 12-2pm As ever, we’d love everyone to join us in the Park Parade at 2.30! Feel free to come as you are, or swing by the Transformation Station around the bandstand to pick up something from our dressing-up rail, decorate a mask or even switch up your silhouette with a shoulder-pad workshop. Alternatively, you can express yourself on a parade placard to carry with pride in the parade.
British Ceramics Biennial
Take part in our hands-on clay workshop and have a go at making your own rolled clay figure, inspired by the work of William Ruscoe. Explore and celebrate the pottery, makers and communities of Stoke-on-Trent. The figures will come together as part of a display to create a People’s Forum, promoting a clay community that everyone can be part of.
Creative Consultation
Look out for Troy the Trojan horse who will be supporting Urban Wilderness to conduct our ‘Pride in the Future’ consultation. They will be trotting around the site and spending some time in the arts area capturing your comments. Come and have your say about the Future of SoT Pride!
The Chalkboard Mini
Express yourself in chalk! Find the Mini and add to our unique Pride canvas.
Acceler8 Band
Acceler8 Band (formerly the TCTC Group Band) are a Championship section brass band based in Crewe. They will be playing at various times throughout the day on the bandstand.
PAYWALL
The Psyber Giantess presents PAYWALL, a live art and movement performance exploring access and visibility. Part performance, part interruption. Show time between 4.30pm and 5pm on the bandstand.
