Port Vale Football Club are a professional football club based in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, which compete in EFL League One. Vale are the only English Football League club not to be named after a place; their name being a reference to the valley of ports on the Trent and Mersey Canal. They play their home games at Vale Park, which has been home since 1950 and are nicknamed The Valiants. The club are owned by Kevin and Carol Shanahan OBE, owners of Synectics Solutions. Through the Port Vale Foundation, the club run programmes that offer sport, community engagement, health and education.
